Commentary 1:
Notice how English uses “turn on / turn off” for everything — lights, phones, even people (“he turns me on”). In Spanish, encender/apagar are for objects, but for people you’d need something spicier: me pone cachondo/a. Context is everything.
Fíjate en cómo en inglés se usa turn on / turn off para todo — luces, móviles, incluso personas (“he turns me on”). En español, encender/apagar son solo para objetos, pero cuando hablamos de personas necesitas algo más picante: me pone cachondo/a. El contexto lo es todo.

Commentary 2:
This is where learners suffer: turn up and turn down can mean volume or people showing up / rejecting something. Spanish keeps them separate: subir/bajar for volume, aparecer for arriving, rechazar for refusing. English just slaps a particle on and calls it a day.
Aquí es donde los estudiantes sufren: turn up y turn down pueden significar volumen o personas que aparecen / rechazan algo. En español separamos todo: subir/bajar para el volumen, aparecer para llegar, rechazar para negarse. El inglés simplemente le pega una partícula al verbo y ya esta.

Commentary 3:
Some phrasals like find out map nicely to Spanish (descubrir/enterarse). But English splits hairs: find out (learn info) vs. figure out (solve something). Spanish learners often merge them both into enterarse or averiguar. Not wrong — but sometimes too vague.
Algunos phrasal verbs como find out encajan bastante bien en español (descubrir, enterarse). Pero el inglés afina mucho más: find out (enterarse de algo) vs. figure out (resolver algo). Los estudiantes de español suelen juntarlos y usar enterarse o averiguar para los dos casos. No está mal, pero a veces queda un poco vago.

Notice the pattern? English phrasals make you combine a boring verb + tiny particle to mean something new. Spanish usually just has one specific verb. That’s why Spaniards laugh when they hear “pick up, put down, put on, take off…” Once you get the hang of it, you start sounding way more natural.
¿Notas el patrón? Los phrasal verbs en inglés te hacen combinar un verbo aburrido con una pequeña partícula para que signifique algo totalmente nuevo. En español, normalmente solo hay un verbo específico. Por eso los españoles se ríen cuando oyen cosas como “pick up, put down, put on, take off…” Una vez que le pillas el truco, empiezas a sonar mucho más natural.

Don’t just write the answers — say them out loud, swap them with a friend, and try to add swear words where appropriate. Language sticks when it feels real, not when it’s trapped in a textbook box.
